England international Ben White made his return from injury for Arsenal during the defeat to Newcastle United earlier this week. The former Brighton and Hove Albion defender has been struggling with a hamstring injury over the course of the past few weeks. He sustained the injury during the home game with Manchester United which ended in a 3-1 win for his team thanks to the goals from Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka, while Cristiano Ronaldo was on target for the visitors.
White was absent for the West Ham United game just after the win over Manchester United. He was a major absentee for the Gunners with compatriot Rob Holding taking his place at the heart of the Arsenal defence alongside Brazilian star Gabriel Magalhaes. White and Gabriel are the first choice central defenders at Arsenal since the former signed for the club in a £50m deal last summer.
For the West Ham game, central defenders Gabriel and Holding were on target for Arsenal in a 2-1 away victory with Jarrod Bowen getting the only goal for the Hammers.
White missed a second successive league game as Arsenal made it four wins in a row with the 2-1home victory overLeeds United who are fighting to stay in the English top flight. Eddie Nketiah was the recipient of both goals for Arsenal, while Spanish international centre back Diego Llorentescored the lone goal for Leeds United who had to play the majority of the game with ten men after Luke Ayling was sent off in the first half for a poor challenge on newly capped Brazilian international Gabriel Martinelli.
England defender White made his return to the Arsenal squad from injury during the North London Derby clash at Tottenham Hotspur, but he was only fit for a place on the bench. The defender returned to the pitch during the 2-0 defeat to the Magpies on Monday. He scored an own goal to break the deadlock for the home team before new signing Bruno Guimares sealed the win.
