Everton and Wolves have reportedly joined the race to sign Allan Saint-Maximin during this summer’s transfer window. Reports emerged over the weekend that the Magpies could cash in on the Frenchman this summer. The Daily Mail stated that Newcastle are willing to let Saint-Maximin leave, with Aston Villa mentioned as a possible destination.
The report adds that Newcastle want around £50million for the winger. That would represent a huge profit for the club, who signed ASM in 2019 for £16.5million. Now 90min have added to the speculation that Saint-Maximin could leave St James’ Park this summer.
90min report that Newcastle are ‘open’ to Saint-Maximin leaving the club at the end of the season. They add that Wolves are keen, as they look to replace Adama Traore. The report also states that Everton are monitoring the situation, although their stance would depend on whether or not they achieve Premier League survival. Interestingly, this is the second time in 12 months that the Toffees have been linked with Saint-Maximin.
The 25-year-old reportedly wants a new contract at Newcastle, with increased wages to reflect his importance to the side. Considering Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes are likely on big money contracts, it would be no surprise if Saint-Maximin wanted similar terms.
With plenty of Premier League clubs already linked, it appears Newcastle would have no shortage of suitors for Saint-Maximin. However, it would be hugely disappointing to see him leave just three years after his arrival. He’s a key player who can play an important role in the new owners’ project. While he hasn’t impressed lately, selling him could prove to be a huge mistake that Newcastle may have to regret later in the future given the attacker's importance and contributions to the team.
