Chelsea would start 2015 by taking Tottenham Hotspur on.
These two teams had played against each other just a couple of weeks ago and in spite of the fact that Chelsea’s most important player Diego Costa was not available for them, they just ran through the Spurs’ defence and surged their way to a 3-0 win.
Costa’s ready to roar on Thursday though and that’s not a good news for Tottenham. The Spanish striker has found some rhythm going into the New Year.
However, Costa’s strike the other day at St. Mary could not get Chelsea over the line. All they returned with from there was one point, but, still, the Londoners are the ones who are occupying that first position in the English Premier division and they would want to strengthen their position there with another win.
Chelsea is a bit lucky though to be still staying at the top. Their performances at Newcastle and then, versus Saints could have easily taken them down South in the table, but, the thing which has worked in their favour is that the second strongest team in the league i.e. Manchester City has not been as ruthless as they have been in the recent past.
The other day, the Sky Blues shared points with Burnley and that helped Chelsea to finish the first half of the season leading the pile.
But, the Blues just can’t keep collapsing under pressure in away games. If they do so, it would only be a matter of time for City to displace them from their top spot.
In their 6 matches this month, the Spurs have lost only 1 game. In the remaining 5, they have been very good. They would definitely be high on confidence and they would back themselves for one point or even a win against Chelsea. It should be an interesting contest really.
