GERRARD WANTS RECORD

The Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has said that he wants to beat the record set by the former England international David Beckham for the most number of international appearances for the England team. The 32-year-old midfielder is coming to the twilight of his career.

He was recently honour by the English football Association on the occasion of the 150th anniversary celebration. Gerrard recently passed the 100 appearance mark, and he has said that he wants to take David Beckham as the record holder for the national team. Gerrard managed his 100th cap for the national team in the recent match against Sweden.

England have made a decent start to the World Cup qualifying - they are currently second in the table and a high on football betting markets to make it to Brazil 2014.

They are, however, just two points off the leaders Montenegro, which will plenty of confidence going into the next round of qualifying matches that will take place in the summer. Beckham currently holds the record for the most number of appearances made by any player for the England national team, which stands at 115. Gerrard has also said that England can make an impact at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He is confident that the team can achieve qualification without any major troubles.

"My personal ambitions are to get as many caps as I can - I have got David Beckham's record in my sights, so I am going to try to beat that because he is a special player. I don't want to raise expectations, I am sure it will probably go through the roof if and when we get there, so I don't really want to talk about the World Cup until we actually get there, we still have some important games to play," said Gerrard after receiving the personal accolade in the awards ceremony.
