Henderson Believes Daniel Sturridge Will End Goal Drought Soon

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson believes that it will not be long before striker Daniel Sturridge hits top form and reclaims his first-team spot. Sturridge was a £ 12 million signing from Chelsea back in January 2013.

He formed a deadly partnership with striker Luis Suarez during the club’s incredible campaign in which they finished runners-up to Manchester City a few years ago. Since the arrival of JurgenKlopp, though, Sturridge has struggled for first-team opportunities. He certainly did not help his case by being injured for much of last season.

The England international has struggled with a lot of niggling injury problems in the last few years, butKlopp says that the striker does not know about playing through the pain barrier. The differences of opinion have led to Sturridge being a regular on the bench more often than not. This situation has led to numerous transfer rumours linking the player with a move elsewhere.

However, he made a crucial difference in the recent Merseyside derby after coming on as a substitute. The 27-year-old set up the winner for Sadio Mane in the 94th minute to once again put himself in the frame for the starting line-up. However, Sturridge has not scored in the last 10 league matches.

Henderson believes that it will be not long before Sturridge returns to form."We all know the talent he has. Everyone knows what a big player he can be for us. All the big stuff a striker needs to do, he is brilliant at. We just need him to stay as fit as we can. When he is fit, he is one of the best around and he has shown that over the years. It's only a matter of time before he scores in the Premier League again and hopefully that will be the start of another one of those runs," said Henderson.
